KAMPALA, Uganda — Flexipay by Stanbic Bank is offering users the chance to win UGX 500,000 ($135 USD) when they receive money from relatives abroad through its Easter campaign, the bank announced Wednesday.
The promotion, running from April 7 to June 30, 2025, will automatically enter customers using Flexipay’s international money transfer services into a weekly draw. Four winners will be selected each week to receive the cash prize.
In partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Flexipay is utilizing platforms such as Upesi, Mpesa, and Juba Express to facilitate secure international money transfers for Ugandan families during the Easter holiday season.
Joseph Ndoboli, Acting Head of Flexipay, stated the campaign aims to both celebrate the festive period and ease financial pressures on those sending money to Uganda. Participating countries include the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, United States, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan, among others.
“Our cashback offer not only supports Ugandans abroad in contributing to their loved ones’ well-being but also promotes financial stability within Uganda,” Ndoboli said. “Partnering with IFAD allows us to uplift the lives of women, youth, and farmers.”
According to the World Bank, remittances to Uganda reached approximately $1.4 billion in 2023, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth through increased household spending.
Sam Mwogeza, Executive Director and Head of Personal and Private banking at Stanbic Bank, reported that Flexipay facilitated UGX 30 billion in remittances in 2024, involving over 11,000 transactions from countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and the UAE.
“With the IFAD partnership, we have reduced remittance costs by 3%, benefiting Ugandan families, especially those in rural areas,” Mwogeza said.
Flexipay added over 260,000 new users in 2024, attributed to the platform’s affordability and ease of use. Recipients of qualifying international remittances will automatically receive 10% cashback.
“As we approach Easter, we encourage Ugandans expecting money from abroad to inform their relatives and friends to use Flexipay for this instant offer,” Ndoboli explained.
David Berno, IFAD Remittances and Inclusive Digital Finance Officer, emphasized the crucial role of remittances in poverty reduction and enhancing food security.
“We are excited to support this campaign because remittances help families meet basic needs and contribute to local economic growth through increased consumption and investment,” Berno said.
Josephine Nakato, Flexipay Head of Customer Experience, assured customers of the security of transactions, highlighting Flexipay as a convenient, secure, and affordable mobile money solution with over one million users across smartphones and USSD.
Launched in Uganda in 2019, Flexipay has become a popular platform for secure and efficient local and international money transfers, supporting personal, merchant, and business transactions through its mobile app, USSD code *291#, and website.
