Overview:

Ms Arapta was elected during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held on Friday, 13th May 2022.

Ms Sarah Arapta, the Chief Executive Officer of Citibank, has been elected the new chairperson of Uganda Bankers Association (UBA).

Ms Arapta was elected during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held on Friday, 13th May 2022.

She takes over from dfcu Bank’s Mathias Katamba who served for two years 2020 and 2021.

Ms Arapta also becomes the first female chairperson of the Association.

Other members elected on the UBA Executive Committee include PostBank MD Julius Kakeeto as Vice-Chair, EFC Uganda Managing Director Shem Kakembo as Treasurer, and Bank of Baroda MD Raj Kumar Meena as Auditor.

Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Olalekan Sanusi, and Managing Director of FINCA Uganda James Onyutta were elected Committee Members.

Katamba hands over to Arapta on Friday.

UBA is an umbrella organization for financial institutions licensed and supervised by Bank of Uganda.

Arapta was born in circa 1970s. She studied at local primary and secondary schools before she joined Makerere University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.

Arapta was employed at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited for a period of nearly five years. She started there as the Head Corporate Banking before becoming the Head of Investment Banking.

She transferred to Barclays Bank of Uganda in January 2014 as the Director of Corporate and Investment Banking, serving in that capacity for one year and six months. In January 2016, she was appointed managing director and CEO of Citibank Uganda.
