Centenary Bank has named Godfrey Byekwaso as its new managing director to succeed Fabian Kasi, who led the institution for 16 years. The change takes effect in July 2026.
KAMPALA — Centenary Bank has appointed Godfrey Byekwaso as its new managing director to succeed Fabian Kasi, who has led the institution for 16 years.
The appointment, which takes effect in July 2026, was announced by Bwoch Gustavio on behalf of the board of directors. Shareholders approved Byekwaso’s transition following his leadership roles within the Centenary Group and the broader regional finance sector.
The board commended Kasi for his performance during his tenure, noting his contribution to the growth of the bank.
“The entire board extends thanks to the incumbent managing director, Mr. Fabian Kasi, for the years of service to our institution to bring it to the status it holds in the banking industry and private sector business at large,” the board statement said.
Byekwaso joined Centenary Bank in 2012 as general manager for finance. In 2023, he was named deputy managing director at Centenary Bank Malawi before being elevated to managing director there.
His professional background includes more than 26 years of experience in banking, operations and consultancy. Before joining the Centenary Group, he served as the regional finance manager for Africa at FINCA International from 2009 to 2012 and as finance and administration manager at FINCA Uganda from 2004 to 2007.
Byekwaso has held several regional leadership positions, including chairperson of the operations committee at the Bankers Association of Malawi and a member of the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe. He is also a member of the Global Preparers Forum, a committee affiliated with the International Financial Accounting Standards Board.
He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting from Makerere University. He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a certified public accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
Byekwaso has also completed executive leadership programs at Strathmore University Business School, including the Advanced Management Programme and the CEO Apprenticeship Programme.
