Raxio Data Centre opens a new, high-tech data storage facility in Uganda, providing essential infrastructure for the country's digital growth.
NAMANVE, Uganda — Responding to increasing data storage needs from both private and governmental sectors in Uganda, Raxio Data Centre has established a cutting-edge facility. This development is poised to tackle the nation’s growing requirement for secure, efficient, and scalable data storage solutions.
At the launch of the Uganda Data Centre Landscape Report at the Raxio facility in Namanve, Caroline Kamaitha, General Manager of Raxio Data Centre, underscored the escalating demand for cloud adoption, propelled by the country’s expanding business ecosystem.
Kamaitha also highlighted the increasing incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the daily operations of businesses throughout Uganda. AI is now being utilized for tasks such as fraud detection and internal monitoring, further amplifying the need for high-quality data center infrastructure.
“As technology continues to advance and more applications emerge, the need for reliable, high-caliber data center facilities becomes critical,” she stated.
Kamaitha elaborated that Raxio’s establishment of a Tier III data center necessitates essential elements like dependable electricity, efficient cooling systems, and robust security to guarantee optimal operations. She also stressed the significance of developing a regulatory framework to ensure data sovereignty. Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act mandates the local processing and storage of citizens’ data, emphasizing the need for secure data housing within national borders.
Edwine Enabu, Sales Manager at Raxio Data Centre, pointed out that the majority of data storage facilities in Uganda are designed for personal or small-scale use, largely due to the substantial investment required to construct commercial-grade centers. He noted that Raxio was established to support companies and SMEs that lack the capacity to operate independent data centers.
Enabu also reiterated the critical need for stable, clean, and reliable electricity, an ongoing challenge in Uganda. “For a Tier III data center like Raxio, reliable and stable power is non-negotiable,” he emphasized.
Designed to meet international standards, Raxio Data Centre offers key features such as consistent power supply, access to multiple connectivity providers, ambient cooling, secure rack space, and robust physical security. This state-of-the-art infrastructure is set to play a pivotal role in powering Uganda’s digital transformation.
