Justina Icabala, MTN Uganda’s Business Segment Manager, presented the award, emphasizing the company’s dedication to supporting female leaders who are driving transformative change in the pursuit of gender equality.
“We, at MTN Uganda, recognise that empowering women in leadership is crucial for fostering inclusive economic growth,” Icabala stated. “Joanita Mukasa Menya embodies the kind of leadership that not only drives businesses forward but also contributes to the upliftment of communities. Her commitment to change is exemplary.”
Menya, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude and reflected on her career journey. “So far, the journey has been incredible, and I am deeply humbled,” she said. “To me, women are the heart of growth—we are natural nurturers, shaping and transforming the world around us. That’s why we are mothers, leaders, and changemakers.”
She also emphasized the importance of mentorship and support in her career. “Seeing the impact of my own contributions, as well as the women I have mentored and supported, is truly heartwarming. It is a great honour to be recognised, and I do not take it for granted, knowing that many remarkable women are making a difference and transforming lives across the nation.”
Menya credited Vivo Energy’s success to the contributions of women, citing the company’s Fuelling Hope initiative—a large-scale blood donation campaign—as an example of how businesses can drive societal change beyond profit. “For me, these are the moments that truly matter—going beyond business to uplift communities and create lasting change,” Menya remarked. “At the end of the day, we have a responsibility not just to succeed, but to empower, transform, and inspire.”
MTN Uganda’s recognition of Menya aligns with its broader efforts to promote female leadership, financial inclusion, mentorship, and enterprise development. The event served to reaffirm the shared ambition of MTN Uganda and Vivo Energy to dismantle barriers, expand opportunities, and drive inclusive growth. The two companies continue to demonstrate that their combined impact is “unstoppable.”
Throughout Women’s Month, MTN Uganda remains committed to showcasing the achievements of female leaders, reinforcing the potential of business collaboration to unlock progress.
