This financial and technical support is earmarked for investments aimed at achieving Uganda's National Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Uganda’s Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija, has signed a grant agreement with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong, securing approximately Shs101.3 billion for economic and technical cooperation between the two nations.

This financial and technical support is earmarked for investments aimed at achieving Uganda’s National Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda, I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the long-lasting technical and financial support in various sectors ranging from transport, energy, and health, among others,” stated Minister Kasaija.

He further requested continued Chinese support in priority areas such as agro-industrialization, solar power irrigation, mineral beneficiation, and technology transfer.

Ambassador Zhang Lizhong explained that the economic and technical agreement stemmed from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024, where China committed to elevating China-Uganda relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership.

He noted that the Ministry of Finance and the Chinese Embassy have identified joint projects to implement the 10 partnership actions pledged during FOCAC over the next three years.

Specifically, he highlighted progress in agriculture and food security, mentioning the initial export of fish maws to China and the advancement of the bamboo plantation and utilization industry to the implementation stage.

Ambassador Zhang also announced that China will continue its support for Uganda’s malaria elimination project in the coming year.
