Ecobank Uganda boosts girls’ education with sanitary pads donation

KAMPALA, Oct 19 – Ecobank Uganda, in partnership with Uganda Red Cross, has launched an initiative to provide reusable sanitary pads to 500 girls at Kitebi Secondary School, tackling a critical barrier to education.

The “Keep a Girl in School” initiative aims to promote menstrual health and address the challenges girls face in accessing education due to lack of sanitary materials. Ecobank Uganda’s Managing Director, Grace Muliisa, emphasized the importance of empowering girls through education, stating that the initiative will contribute significantly to the girls’ welfare and high school retention.

Ecobank Uganda also donated UGX 2 million to enhance internet access at Kitebi Secondary School.

Naphtal Baguma, Head of Logistics at Uganda Red Cross, highlighted the need for collaboration in addressing menstrual hygiene challenges. “We aim to raise national awareness about menstrual hygiene. This cannot solely rely on donors; we call upon all Ugandans to be part of this humanitarian campaign for the good of our country’s girl child.”

Hajji Kamulegeye Muhammed, Headteacher of Kitebi Senior Secondary School, praised the partnership, saying, “With the support of organizations like Ecobank and the Red Cross, we can continue to enhance the educational experience and ensure our students have the necessary tools to succeed.”
