The Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, Ms Jenifer Bamuturaki, has been elected president of the Africa Airlines Association (AFRAA).

She took over the presidency at the 54th AFRAA Annual General Assembly in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday, 13th December 2022.

Ms Bamuturaki takes over from Mr Alioune Badara Fall, the CEO of Air Senegal who has been the President of AFRAA for 2022.

Her presidency comes at a time when the Airline is preparing to host the 55th AFRAA Annual General Assembly and Summit in November 2023.

Her new role comes as a relief since she has been facing allegations of mismanagement of the national carrier. Uganda Airlines has had three CEOs and two boards in less than four years of its existence.

Ms Bamuturaki, who was appointed Uganda Airlines CEO in July, had been serving as an interim CEO for more than a year following the suspension and subsequent sacking of former CEO Cornwell Muleya, some board members and some staff over allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

Earlier, Ms Bamuturaki worked as the airline’s commercial director when it had just resumed operations in 2019 but was pushed out.
