Airtel Uganda in partnership with American Tower Corporation (ATC) Uganda have installed a solar powered tower in Iganga that they said is aimed at protecting the environment.
While commissioning the solar powered tower on Wednesday, 14 December 2022, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Manoj Murali said the company is committed to eliminating hazardous waste from its operations, significantly reducing non-hazardous waste and minimising water consumption
“We will achieve this through programmes to replace damaging materials, expand recycling schemes and build employees’ awareness around the protection of natural resources,” he added.
Murali also urged the public to use the tower and all our 4G sites across Uganda to enjoy Airtel Uganda’s “affordable offers for data, voice, e-commerce, and devices to keep connected to your loved ones throughout this festive season.”

According to Dorothy Ssemanda, the ATC Chief Executive, the Tower Company has an ambitious plan to create a good energy mix aimed at progressively phasing out fossil fuels from the towers.
“We shall continue to work closely with our partners- like Airtel Uganda, to ensure that we achieve the science-based targets that we signed up to build a sustainable business,” she said.
In 2012, telecoms sold all tower sites to third party operators in a bid to reduce operation and maintenance costs.
