LILONGWE, Malawi — Malawi Airlines will commence four weekly flights between Lilongwe and Entebbe starting Dec. 15, the airline confirmed Thursday.
The new air route is intended to enhance connectivity, boost trade and serve communities in both Uganda and Malawi.
The announcement followed a meeting between Ugandan High Commissioner to Malawi, Ambassador (Retired) Col. Fred Mwesigye, and Malawi Airlines Chief Executive Officer Solomon Bekele Debay at the airline’s headquarters.
Debay expressed appreciation to the Ugandan government for facilitating regulatory clearance for the service. Mwesigye said he was “extremely excited that Malawi Airlines will be operating in Uganda,” noting that the increased connectivity would foster integration and economic growth between the two nations.
The launch of the Lilongwe-Entebbe route is viewed by both parties as a milestone in efforts to deepen commercial collaboration, tourism and investment.
