Overview:
Chil Group launched Global Cancer Tele-Oncology for All after raising $310,000. The hybrid model brings cancer screening and treatment to East Africa’s rural communities.
KAMPALA, Uganda — Chil Group, a health care organization specializing in artificial intelligence and technology solutions for underserved communities, today announced the launch of its flagship Global Cancer Tele-Oncology for All project.
The initiative aims to provide comprehensive cancer screening and treatment to remote and rural populations in East Africa, where access to oncology expertise is severely limited.
A hybrid tele-oncology model is used to tackle what the organization calls the “last mile” challenge in cancer care. Patients attend physical screening camps at partner health facilities in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya for sample collection and assessments. International oncologists then connect remotely through secure platforms to interpret results in real time, deliver virtual consultations and oversee patient management.
The project goes beyond screening, ensuring a seamless pathway to treatment by facilitating immediate referrals to partnered government and private cancer centers when needed.
“We are not just testing; we are connecting,” said Dr. Shamim Nabuuma, chief executive officer of Chil Group. “Through the Global Cancer Tele-Oncology for All project, we are ensuring that no patient is left confused or abandoned after a positive test result.”
Nabuuma issued an urgent call for oncologists and cancer physicians worldwide to register as volunteers.
According to global data presented at the 2025 European Society for Medical Oncology Congress, 92.2% of the world’s oncology workforce is concentrated in high- and upper-middle-income countries. Even within the remaining 7.8%, specialists are often clustered in urban centers, leaving remote patients with delayed diagnoses and lower survival rates.
Chil Group set an initial fundraising target of $500,000 between 2023 and May 2025. Although the full amount was not reached, the organization successfully raised $310,000 and proceeded with the launch.
Key support included a significant contribution from global consumer health leader Reckitt, which redirected a monetary award from the Celonis Game Changer Community Inspiration Award 2024 to the campaign.
The organization invites qualified oncology specialists worldwide to register immediately for the Tele-oncology E-Camps planned for mid-2026. Participation is flexible:
- Specialists select camps aligning with their schedules and expertise.
- All participation is fully remote via secure, high-quality tele-oncology connections.
Chil Group handles all temporary registration, licensing and clearance processes for volunteers by partnering directly with medical regulatory authorities in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.
The 2026 Tele-oncology E-Camp Schedule is as follows:
- Uganda: June 15, 2026, and Aug. 19, 2026. Registration via online portal.
- Rwanda: Sept. 7, 2026. Registration via email at info@ketiai.tech.
- Kenya: Dates to be announced shortly. Registration via email atinfo@ketiai.tech.
