Vivo Energy introduces VE-CEM, a predictive maintenance solution that helps African businesses save money and boost productivity by keeping their fleets and equipment moving.
KAMPALA, UGANDA — Vivo Energy, a leading pan-African retailer of Shell and Engen-branded fuels and lubricants, has introduced a new digital solution aimed at transforming how businesses in Africa manage their fleets. The company’s new VE-CEM (Continuous Equipment Monitoring) service uses predictive technology to prevent vehicle breakdowns before they happen.
The VE-CEM solution, developed in partnership with Intangles, leverages “Digital Twin” technology to give businesses real-time visibility into their vehicles and equipment. By analyzing data from the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU), it provides actionable insights into critical systems like the engine and brakes, as well as driver behavior and its impact on fuel use.
This new service is designed for commercial customers in key sectors like transport, mining, and agriculture, where equipment reliability is crucial. According to Vivo Energy, the technology can significantly reduce downtime, lower maintenance costs, and improve overall fleet availability.
“At Vivo Energy, we don’t just fuel industries; we power transformation,” said Stan Mittelman, CEO of Vivo Energy. “With VE-CEM, our customers will be able to predict issues before they happen—slashing costs, boosting productivity, and gaining greater confidence in their operations.”
The solution is easy to install using a small device that connects directly to the vehicle. Once installed, customers can access predictive insights from any device on a secure platform.
Joanita Mukasa Menya, managing director of Vivo Energy Uganda, emphasized that the technology provides a long-needed solution for companies facing tight margins and high maintenance costs. “It turns maintenance into a strategic advantage, reduces costs, lowers fuel consumption, and improves fleet availability.”
VE-CEM has already been successfully piloted with operators in Kenya, Senegal, and Zambia. Customers have praised its ability to detect potential problems weeks in advance, leading to a reduction in unplanned downtime. The service will now be rolled out across Vivo Energy’s commercial operations throughout Africa.
