KAMPALA — RUBiS Energy Uganda has named William Fillet its new managing director, with the appointment effective immediately. He succeeds Olivier Gatera, who is moving to a new assignment within RUBiS Energy East Africa.

The announcement ushers in a new phase for the company as it seeks to accelerate growth and innovation in Uganda’s energy sector.

Fillet, with more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry, will focus on expanding RUBiS Energy Uganda’s footprint, ensuring sustainable business growth and delivering value-driven solutions to customers.

“I am here to develop this legacy of growth and operational excellence, ensuring that the vision of the company continues to flourish,” Fillet said in a statement. “My commitment is to deepen innovation and sustainability within our businesses and in the communities we serve.”

He added that RUBiS’s mission is to be a driving force for progress by providing energy solutions for everyone. Fillet said this will be achieved by developing clean energy solutions with products such as RUBiS ULTRA TEC Advanced fuel Technology, RUBiS Gas and Castrol lubricants.

Gatera reflected on his time in Uganda, noting the company has expanded its network to more than 70 service stations, including 26 Enjoy convenience stores. He also cited the launch of digital products like the Rubis Card and Rubis App.

“The resilience and warmth of the Ugandan people have truly humbled me,” Gatera said.

Olivier Sabrié, RUBiS Energies CEO for East Africa and Group Managing Director of RUBiS Energy Kenya, thanked Gatera for his service and welcomed Fillet.

“Olivier Gatera leaves behind a strong legacy, and we are truly grateful for his dedication,” Sabrié said. “We are equally excited to welcome William Fillet, whose experience and strategic vision make him well-suited to lead RUBiS Energy Uganda into its next phase of innovation and sustainable growth.”

RUBiS entered the Ugandan market in 2019 through the acquisition of assets from two oil companies, Kobil and Delta Petroleum. Since then, it has rebranded stations, modernized its infrastructure and expanded its product offerings. The company has quickly established itself as a key player in the country’s energy sector, committed to quality, safety and innovation.
