Overview:
C-Care has completed its acquisition of Roswell Hospital in Kampala, growing its Uganda network to six hospitals and 17 clinics and boosting women’s healthcare.
Private healthcare provider C-Care has taken over Roswell Hospital in Kampala, the latest step in its expansion in Uganda.
The 30-bed hospital in the city’s central business district formally joined the C-Care network on 8 September, after the deal was completed. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Roswell treats more than 30,000 patients a year and specialises in women’s health, maternal and child care, and fertility services.
With the acquisition, C-Care now runs six hospitals and 17 clinics in Uganda.
Azhar Sundhoo, chief executive of C-Care East Africa, said the deal strengthened the company’s presence in Kampala and added to its capabilities in women’s health, maternal and child care, and fertility.
“It is an important step in our growth strategy and reinforces our commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare in Uganda,” he said.
“We look forward to building on the hospital’s strong foundation and the opportunities this creates for our patients, teams and partners.”
C-Care says it will now focus on integrating Roswell into its network and improving services across its facilities.
The takeover follows a run of expansion by the company. In June, it turned its outpatient facility in the northern city of Gulu into a 45-bed inpatient hospital. Its facilities in Mukono and Mbale have also been upgraded to full hospitals.
Its flagship C-Care IHK, formerly International Hospital Kampala, was the first private hospital in Uganda to carry out both open-heart and keyhole surgery.
Last year, it was accredited for a fourth consecutive time by the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa, making it one of only four hospitals in East Africa to hold the recognition.
C-Care Uganda was previously known as International Medical Group, founded by Dr Ian Clarke. It was renamed after being bought by Mauritius-based CIEL Group, whose healthcare arm operates as C-Care.
