Old Mutual Investment Group joins Makerere Endowment Fund in the sixth Makerere Marathon, raising resources for the university's Disability Support Centre.

KAMPALA — Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) has partnered with the Makerere Endowment Fund (MakEF) in the sixth edition of the Makerere University Marathon, a charity run raising resources for the university’s support services for students with disabilities.

The run, held under the theme “Run the Hills for the Future,” drew participants from across the country, according to a statement issued by the firm on 23 September.

Funds mobilised through the marathon are meant to strengthen the Makerere University Disability Support Centre. According to the statement, the centre helps students with disabilities deal with barriers related to accessibility, learning materials, mobility and assistive support.

The statement did not disclose how much OMIG contributed or how much the run raised in total.

Zac Kisesi, the Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda, linked the company’s involvement to its work managing long-term investments for individuals and institutions.

“At Old Mutual Investment Group, our work is fundamentally about the future — helping individuals and institutions build and preserve value over the long term. We see the same principle in supporting this marathon,” Kisesi said.

He said the firm treats inclusion “not only from a financial perspective, but as a principle that enables people to participate fully in education, the economy and society.”

“We are proud to stand with Makerere Endowment Fund and the wider community in supporting an initiative that can create a lasting impact,” he added.

The company said its participation was also tied to its interest in promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles.
