Overview:
SBG Securities says the inaugural Investor Day will help bridge information gaps that continue to keep many Ugandans out of investment opportunities despite growing interest in wealth creation and financial planning.
KAMPALA — MTN Uganda chairman and businessman Dr Charles Mbire will headline the inaugural SBG Securities Investor Day on Friday as the investment firm seeks to encourage more Ugandans to participate in the country’s financial markets.
The event, which will be streamed live on the Stanbic Uganda YouTube channel, comes at a time when growing numbers of Ugandans are looking beyond traditional savings accounts to investment options such as shares, unit trusts and government securities.
Organised by SBG Securities, a subsidiary of Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited (SUHL), the forum is expected to bring together investors, business leaders, shareholders and financial experts to discuss wealth creation, financial literacy and investment opportunities in Uganda’s evolving economy.
The event will begin with SBG Securities’ Annual General Meeting for its Unit Trust clients before transitioning into a public investor engagement session featuring expert presentations and panel discussions.
SBG Securities Chief Executive Officer Grace Semakula said the forum is intended to address the information gap that continues to limit participation in financial markets.
“Many Ugandans are saving, but relatively few are investing. Yet saving alone is often not enough to build long-term wealth,” Ms Semakula said.
“Investor Day is designed to create a platform where investors, business leaders, shareholders and economically active Ugandans can engage in meaningful conversations about opportunities within Uganda’s financial markets and the broader economy.”
She said access to reliable information and expert guidance remains critical as more individuals seek ways to grow their savings and secure their financial futures.
The forum comes against a backdrop of increased interest in investment products as Ugandans search for better returns amid changing economic conditions.
Industry players say limited awareness and understanding of financial markets remain among the key barriers preventing wider retail participation.
Dr Mbire, one of Uganda’s most prominent investors, is expected to deliver a keynote address focusing on regional economic growth, private sector development and the role of investments in creating long-term wealth.
His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on leveraging financial markets to build and grow wealth.
The discussion will feature Mr Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Executive Director at Stanbic Bank Uganda, who will speak about wealth management and estate planning.
Also on the panel is Bank of Uganda economist Pumla Nabachwa, who will discuss personal financial management, diversification and financial literacy.
Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority Director of Supervision and Market Conduct Daisy Nabakooza will provide insights into retirement planning and the role of financial markets in national development.
Discussions are also expected to explore how banking products and investment solutions can be used together to help individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals.
The Investor Day marks a new initiative by SBG Securities as it seeks to expand investor awareness and participation in Uganda’s capital markets, which remain relatively underutilised compared to more developed markets in the region.
