KAMPALA — The Public Relations Association of Uganda, known as PRAU, has recognised leading organisations and individuals at its ninth Excellence Awards ceremony, celebrating the role of strategic communication in driving business success and public trust.

The event, held at the Protea Hotel in Kampala, operated under the theme “Recognising Innovation and Impact in Public Relations” and drew communication professionals, corporate leaders, and government officials.

PRAU President Irene Nakasiita highlighted that the awards aim to honour exceptional work and provide a platform for individuals and organisations to showcase their brilliance in executing well-thought-out communication concepts.

“We are not just celebrating winners, but innovators who have redefined what is possible in our profession through creative concepts that continue to prove that strategic communication is a powerful driver of trust, progress, and transformation,” Ms Nakasiita stated.

Thirteen winners were named across 13 categories, with corporate and utility firms leading in critical business communication fields.

Key Corporate and Campaign Winners

  • Best Corporate Communication Campaign: DFCU Bank/Capital One Group
  • Best Crisis Communication: Equity Bank Uganda Limited/Capital One Group
  • Best CSR and ESG Campaign: NCBA Bank
  • Best Media Relations and Media Management Campaign: UEDCL
  • Best Public Affairs Campaign: UEDCL
  • Best Event/Experiential Campaign: MultiChoice Uganda
  • Best Internal Communication Campaign: Uganda Baati Limited/MAAD McCANN

Serene Beauty secured the top award, winning the Best Overall PR Campaign, as well as the Best Social/Digital Communication Campaign. Node Group was named the Best PR Agency.

Other recipients included Gaaba Lakel Maria for Young Communicator of the Year and Danniella Makiika from Uganda Martyrs University for the Student Award.

Ms Sarah Kagingo was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her long-term service and significant contributions to elevating the practice of public relations in Uganda.

Solly Mollo, the South African High Commissioner to Uganda, attended as the chief guest. He congratulated the awardees and encouraged PRAU to explore collaboration opportunities with the South African commission to promote the visibility of both countries through public relations.

The awards were supported by numerous sponsors, including the Bank of Uganda, NBS TV, PwC, MTN Uganda, and the Uganda Communications Commission.
