NITA-U unveils UGOV, a single digital platform that will unify all government services in Uganda to enhance efficiency and citizen access
KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda has launched a major initiative to create a single digital portal, called UGOV, that will unify services offered by all government ministries, departments and agencies.
The National Information Technology Authority, or NITA-U, is designing UGOV in partnership with the technology company AlphaX. The goal is to establish a comprehensive, integrated digital ecosystem that facilitates faster, more efficient delivery of government, business and citizen-centric services.
The platform’s design and purpose were unveiled at a recent workshop in Kampala.
Julian M. Rweju, acting director of E-Government Services at NITA-U, emphasized the importance of the single access point.
“UGOV marks a new chapter in Uganda’s digital evolution,” Rweju said. “By unifying government services onto a single platform, we are making public service delivery simpler, smarter, and accessible to every citizen, regardless of their location.”
She stressed that cooperation among all government institutions is vital for the country to advance its position in global digital rankings and establish itself as a leader in digital transformation.
Timos Tokousbalides, creative director at AlphaX, noted the platform’s focus goes beyond internal government operations to the user experience.
“When citizens feel that this service belongs to them; familiar, trusted, and rooted in their identity, that is when real adoption and meaningful engagement begin,” Tokousbalides said.
As part of the rollout, various government agencies have nominated change agents to serve as ambassadors for the UGOV application, helping to increase awareness and promote the seamless integration of e-services across the public sector. The initiative is a commitment to improving public service efficiency and positioning Uganda as a regional leader in digital governance.
