Uganda’s e-mobility vision is tested as the electric Kayoola bus embarks on a 30-day, 13,000-kilometer expedition across Africa to showcase green technology.
Kampala, Uganda — Kiira Motors Corporation’s flagship vehicle, the Kayoola Electric Coach 13M Model 2025, has commenced a 8,078-mile (13,000-kilometer) journey across Africa. The 30-day expedition is intended to showcase Ugandan innovation in the field of e-mobility.
The journey, titled “Made in Uganda to Africa: An Electric Trans-African Expedition of Technology and Innovation,” will traverse six nations: Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini and South Africa. The expedition is scheduled to run from November 20 to December 20, 2025.
MTN Uganda is serving as the lead sponsor and dedicated connectivity partner. The company will provide the critical digital infrastructure necessary for continuous operational oversight, ensuring constant communication between the bus and mission control throughout its transit. MTN is also supplying the team with smart travel packages, including e-SIMs and MoMo virtual cards for electronic payments.
The undertaking was dedicated Friday at the Protea Hotel in Kampala, in an event attended by delegates from the president’s office, KMC leadership and MTN Uganda executives.
Ibrahim Senyonga, general manager of the Enterprise Business Unit at MTN Uganda, said the connectivity solutions would enhance crew security through precise tracking and immediate emergency communication.
Honorable Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, described the transit as a testament to the transformative power of Ugandan enterprise.
“We are proud to see our nation’s vision for e-Mobility take on this continental journey, proving our capacity to lead in green technology,” Musenero said.
Isaac Paul Musasizi, chief executive officer of Kiira Motors Corporation, emphasized the crucial nature of the partnership.
“The support from MTN as our lead sponsor is crucial in ensuring the safety and continuous operational success of our crew and asset across throughout the journey and beyond,” Musasizi said.
