DOHA, Qatar — Uganda is actively targeting Qatari investment for projects in agro-industrialization and infrastructure following the second Uganda-Qatar Business Forum in Doha.

The event, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda, focused on securing capital to finance growth across key economic sectors under the theme, “Uganda and Qatar in Partnership for Shared Economic Development.”

Vincent Waiswa Bagiire, permanent secretary for Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the country’s strong commitment to commercial diplomacy.

“Uganda’s doors are open to investors who share our vision for sustainable growth,” Bagiire said. He highlighted that Uganda offers numerous opportunities in manufacturing and tourism, backed by a youthful workforce, political stability and access to regional markets.

The forum featured presentations from the Uganda Investment Authority and other agencies, showcasing specific investment incentives to attract Qatari capital.

The partnership has already resulted in significant bilateral growth. Mohammed Massami, chairman of KON Group, confirmed that Uganda’s exports to Qatar have grown from $20 million to $34 million in the past decade. During the same period, Qatar’s exports to Uganda increased from $17 million to $26 million.

Massami, who is personally exploring $10 million in investment opportunities in Uganda’s agro-processing and mineral development sectors, noted that increased weekly flights between the nations support this trade growth.

Diplomatic ties are set to deepen further with the forthcoming establishment of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Uganda, a development both nations anticipate will strengthen cooperation and facilitate new economic projects.
