KAMPALA, Uganda— Ronald Makata, Stanbic Bank Uganda’s chief finance and value management officer, was the top honoree at the 9th annual Uganda CFO Awards 2025, taking home three major accolades at the ceremony held last evening in Kampala.
Makata secured the top prize in two categories—Compliance and Governance and Finance Transformation and Technology—and was named First Runner-Up for CFO of the Year. The recognition highlights his leadership in finance excellence within Uganda’s banking sector.
The awards, organized by Deloitte Uganda and ACCA Uganda, recognize finance professionals for excellence in financial stewardship, innovation and value creation. The theme for this year’s event was “CFO Vision: Creating Impact and Legacy.”
After accepting the awards, Makata credited the professional culture at Stanbic Bank.
“I receive these triple honors with deep humility,” Makata said. “These awards are not just a personal achievement—they reflect the collective excellence, innovation, and integrity that define the Stanbic Bank culture.”
Stanbic Bank Uganda Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa congratulated Makata, calling the achievement “a proud moment for the Stanbic family and a clear validation of the leadership excellence that drives the bank’s success.”
Kalifungwa noted that Makata’s achievements reflect the bank’s commitment to governance, transformation and innovation. Under Makata’s leadership, the finance function has evolved into a strategic enabler of innovation and data-driven decision-making, advancing the bank’s vision of driving sustainable prosperity for Uganda.
The awards come shortly after Stanbic’s parent company, Standard Bank Group, was named by Forbes as one of the World’s Best Employers 2025, ranking first in Africa and third globally in the Banking and Financial Services sector.
