Uganda and Kenya tourism stakeholders unite for the 4th annual conference in Malindi, Kenya. Learn how the event will leverage youth, innovation, and technology to transform the travel industry.

MOMBASA — Uganda’s Consulate-General in Mombasa, in collaboration with key tourism stakeholders from Uganda and Kenya, launched the fourth Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, Exhibition and Fam Trip on Wednesday.

The event, scheduled for Oct. 27-29, 2025, at the Ocean Beach Resort & Spa in Malindi, Kilifi County, is themed “Leveraging Youth, Innovation & Technology for Responsive & Inclusive Tourism.”

The launch ceremony was attended by Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, officials from the Kenya Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines, and various tour agents. Ugandan singer and brand ambassador Akothee also made a special appearance.

Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, Amb. Paul Mukumbya, highlighted the partnership’s focus on complementarity rather than competition. He noted the conference’s steady growth, from 200 delegates in 2022 to a projected 750 this year.

Mukumbya explained that the theme was inspired by the role of youth in shaping the future of tourism through innovation and technology. “Young people possess a natural affinity for emerging technologies and are often at the forefront of creating and adapting to new technology solutions,” he said.

Governor Mung’aro echoed this sentiment, praising the creativity and entrepreneurial mindset of young people, which has led to the rise of tech-enabled startups, sustainable tourism initiatives, and smart hospitality concepts. He added that these innovations not only improve the visitor experience but also contribute to environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment.

Dorcus Rukundo Twesigomwe, the Business Development Manager for the Uganda Wildlife Authority, encouraged Ugandans to attend, noting that the number of Kenyans visiting Ugandan national parks has doubled. She emphasized the opportunities available to young professionals and students in the vibrant Kenyan travel industry.

The event’s highlight was the official launch of the conference registration portal.

The conference will be preceded by a familiarization trip for Ugandan tourism stakeholders to the Kenya Coast from Oct. 22-26, and a golf tournament at Vipingo Ridge on Oct. 25. Uganda Airlines will offer special rates to registered participants.
