KAMPALA, UGANDA – Absa Bank Uganda has awarded the second set of winners in its “Play Your Cards Right” campaign, giving 10 million Ugandan shillings each to four customers for their card usage in July.
The winners, who were selected for using their Absa debit and credit cards five times or more during the month, were:
- Business Credit Card: Dentsu Uganda
- Personal Credit Card: Catherine Gita
- Business Debit Card: Survesis
- Personal Debit Card: Judith Kyokwijuka
The campaign, which runs from June to September 2025, awards a total of 40 million shillings each month to winners across personal and business banking segments.
Moses Rutahigwa, Absa Bank Uganda’s Retail and Business Banking Director, said the promotion is meant to “encourage them to embrace the convenience and rewards of cashless payments.”
The campaign coincides with a period of rapid growth in digital payments in Uganda. In 2024, Absa’s card transaction volumes grew by 18.5%, significantly outpacing the market average. Active card usage at the bank also increased by 15%, compared to a 2% market growth.
According to a report from the Bank of Uganda, cheque usage has declined, while e-money transactions surged to 253.7 trillion shillings in the 12 months leading to June 2024. Agent banking and interbank transfers also saw notable increases, underscoring the growing adoption of digital financial services.
“Every swipe, tap, or online payment could be the one that wins you UGX 10 million,” Rutahigwa said. “This is our way of making banking both rewarding and convenient.”
