Uganda's premier Kampala Auto Show concludes, showcasing industry growth and Plascon's latest automotive paint innovations.

KAMPALA, UGANDA — The fourth annual Kampala Auto Show concluded this week at Kololo Independence Grounds, drawing over 5,000 attendees and serving as a key platform for business and innovation within Uganda’s automotive sector. The two-day event, held July 12-13, brought together vehicle manufacturers, spare part dealers, auto financing institutions, insurers, and motorsport enthusiasts.

Plascon Uganda, a main sponsor, showcased its extensive range of automotive paint products, emphasizing the company’s commitment to quality and innovation in the country’s mobility sector.

Benjamin Bicung, Marketing Coordinator at Plascon Uganda, underscored the company’s role at the event.

“We are proud to be part of the 4th edition of the Kampala Auto Show, celebrating the spirit of motion, design, and creativity,” Bicung said. “Our automotive product range is engineered to meet the highest standards of performance, durability, and beauty, ensuring that vehicles not only look stunning but also withstand the rigors of our climate. We look forward to continuously supporting Uganda’s automotive and motorsport communities with solutions they can trust.”

Plascon’s featured products included Plascon Plascryl, a two-component acrylic/isocyanate enamel designed for high gloss, fast drying, and resistance to weather and chemicals, particularly suited for tropical climates. The company also presented Plascon Plascryl Thinner, formulated specifically for the Plascryl enamel system.

Other innovations on display were Plascon Fast Dry, a versatile synthetic enamel for vehicles, wood, or metal, and Plascon Nitrocellulose Paint, a fast air-drying lacquer for automotive refinishing and treated indoor furniture. Completing their lineup was Plascon’s Lightweight Body Filler, a low-density, quick-curing filler praised for its ease of application and smooth finish.

Beyond product exhibitions, the Auto Show featured drifting displays, stunt performances, and rally car demonstrations, drawing significant interest from motorsport fans.

Eric Nuwagaba, known as One Trouble from Tag Racing, highlighted the show’s importance for local motorsport. “Events like this are a great opportunity for us MotoGP riders to find new sponsors because the sport is expensive and needs more support to grow,” he said.

West Da Industrialist, a prominent figure in the drag racing scene, expressed enthusiasm for the show and acknowledged the motorsport federation’s support while suggesting areas for community growth.

Rally driver Umar Dauda from WRT Rally Team commended the drifters and MotoGP riders, urging rally drivers to reciprocate support. “Our drifters and riders are our biggest fans in motorsport, so we must also show up for them at their events and grow this community together,” Dauda said.
