Ugandan women entrepreneurs gain financial independence through Equity Bank's 'Abakyala ku Ntiiko' initiative, promoting economic empowerment and growth

Hundreds of women in eastern Uganda have gathered for a financial literacy workshop, as part of a programme aimed at empowering female entrepreneurs.

The “Abakyala ku Ntiiko” initiative, launched by Equity Bank, seeks to equip women with the skills and knowledge needed to manage their finances, access credit, and grow their businesses.

Ruth Nakaima, Deputy Speaker of Iganga Municipality, praised the programme, saying it had already made a significant impact on the lives of many women.

“Equity Bank’s support has transformed the lives of many women by giving them skills training, boosting financial literacy, and enhancing confidence,” Nakaima said.

Ronald Nakhasanga, Equity Bank’s Regional Manager, said the programme was part of the bank’s efforts to promote financial inclusion and support women’s economic empowerment.

“Our purpose is truly working. We have given people dignity and the chance to create wealth,” Nakhasanga said.

Barbara Namata, Relationship Supervisor at Equity Bank, outlined the various financial products and services available to women entrepreneurs, including micro-loans, asset financing, and youth loans.

Women who attended the workshop shared their stories of struggle and success, highlighting the challenges they faced in accessing credit and growing their businesses.

The “Abakyala ku Ntiiko” programme is part of a broader effort to promote women’s economic empowerment in Uganda, where women make up a significant proportion of the workforce but often face significant barriers to accessing credit and other financial services.

The programme will continue to roll out across different regions of Uganda, with upcoming events planned for Lira and Kiboga.
