MTN Uganda and Mastercard unveil Market by MoMo, a revolutionary e-commerce platform empowering local traders and shoppers with convenient, secure and affordable online shopping solutions
KAMPALA, Uganda— MTN Group Fintech, in partnership with Mastercard have launched Market by MoMo, a digital marketplace connecting Ugandan traders with millions of customers.
The platform offers a seamless, secure, and convenient shopping experience with unbeatable prices, according to Brian Mutungi, e-commerce Country Lead of MTN Group Fincommerce.
“We are thrilled to officially launch Market by MoMo, a platform that combines a variety of product categories, flexible payment options, and user-friendly shopping features, making it a game-changer for Uganda’s e-commerce sector,” Mutungi said. “This launch also aligns with our vision of leading digital solutions for Uganda’s progress.”
Market by MoMo currently features over 3,500 local businesses offering products in categories such as groceries, electronics, and health and beauty.
Joseph Bogera, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Sales and Distribution, described the launch as a step toward building a more equitable and connected society.
“As MTN, we are inspired by our vision that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves the benefits of a modern, connected life,” Bogera said. “It’s a vision that drives us every day to push boundaries and innovate so that we can create a brighter and more inclusive digital future.”
Sarah Bateta Okwi, MTN MoMo’s Chief Finance Officer, highlighted the platform’s benefits for traders.
“Beyond the convenience that Market by MoMo is bringing to Ugandan shoppers, this proposition is expanding the market and opening new opportunities for traders and sellers, complementing physical foot traffic with online sales,” Okwi said.
Amnah Ajmal, Executive Vice President, Market Development, EEMEA at Mastercard, emphasized the importance of safe, secure, and seamless shopping experiences.
“Consumers across the board are now presented with increased choices, and it is important for companies to ensure their experiences are safe, secure, and seamless,” Ajmal said. “Through this collaboration with MTN Group Fintech, we are proud to enable local businesses and consumers in Uganda to participate fully in better shopping experiences.”
Market by MoMo offers flexible payment options, including MTN MoMo and major credit/debit cards. The platform is zero-rated for MTN customers, allowing access without data charges.
To celebrate the launch, customers can enjoy discounts of up to 60% on select product categories and free deliveries in Kampala and neighboring areas.
