Finance Minister Matia Kasaija addresses city traders.

The Finance Minister said it's from the tax that the government gets the required resources to address the pressing challenges faced by the traders and all Ugandans.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has called upon the business community and the traders in particular to pay their fair share of taxes.

“It’s our policy as a government to ensure that there is a conducive investment climate for businesses to thrive,” said Kasaija.

He made the remarks on Tuesday at the national traders’ workshop organised by the Kampala Arcaders Traders Association (KATA) at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala under the theme ‘Addressing key challenges and crafting solutions for traders’ success”

The Finance Minister said it’s from the tax that the government gets the required resources to address the pressing challenges faced by the traders and all Ugandans.

 “Government shall not remove taxes but will continue to put in place measures to harmonise the tax policy with the aim of promoting fairness and equity, in addition to ensuring that every sector contributes its fair share to national development,” he said.

The Minister appreciated the synergy and spirit of working together amongst themselves. He requested KATA to continue engaging and collaborating with other associations such as KACITA to articulate their concerns with one stronger voice.
