Absa Bank Uganda appoints Ruth Lillian Kagabane as Compliance Director, strengthening its leadership team with 17+ years of risk management and compliance expertise

Absa Bank Uganda has made a strategic appointment to bolster its leadership team, naming Ruth Lillian Kagabane as Compliance Director, effective November 1, 2024.

With over 17 years of experience in risk management, compliance, operations, and controls, Ms. Kagabane brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. Her extensive background in banking and finance is expected to enhance Absa’s compliance framework.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Kagabane served as Head of Retail and Business Banking Operations and Controls at Absa. During her tenure, she successfully structured and introduced the Retail and Business Banking Assurance methodology.

Ms. Kagabane’s accomplishments at Absa are noteworthy. She spearheaded the establishment of the Bank Staff Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) and served as its first Chairperson. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in ensuring a satisfactory control environment within the Retail and Business Banking unit.

Her experience extends beyond Absa, having worked at reputable organizations such as KPMG and the Uganda Revenue Authority.

Ms. Kagabane’s academic credentials are impressive. She holds a Master of Sciences Degree in Professional Accountancy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics and Applied Economics. She also possesses a Higher Diploma in Tax Administration and Revenue.

As a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), Ms. Kagabane’s professional affiliations underscore her expertise in accounting and finance.
