KAMPALA— The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, has appointed Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa as the 5th Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), effective May 13, 2024.
Eng. Kasigwa, an accomplished Electrical Engineer with over two decades of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in leadership and strategic management to his new role.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, and a Master’s degree in Telecommunication from London South Bank University, United Kingdom. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from ESAMI.
Prior to his appointment, Eng. Kasigwa served in senior roles at the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, where he gained valuable experience in science, technology, innovation, and infrastructure development.
As Executive Director of UNBS, Eng. Kasigwa is expected to lead the organization in developing, promoting, and enforcing standards that protect public health and safety, the environment, and ensure fair trade. Under his leadership, UNBS will continue to play a vital role in promoting fair trade practices and competition, safeguarding the public and the environment against harmful and sub-standard products.
