Mrs. Aliziki Lubega, the Director Macro Economic Statistics at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), said the reduction in prices was witnessed in Energy, Fuel and Utilities and food items.
Uganda’s annual inflation for December 2022 was 10.2%, a slight reduction from 10.6% registered in November 2022.
Releasing the December inflation figures on Friday, 30 December 2022, Mrs. Aliziki Lubega, the Director Macro Economic Statistics at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), said the reduction in prices was witnessed in Energy, Fuel and Utilities and food items.
Annual energy, fuel and utilities’ inflation slowed to 10.6% in December 2022 compared to 12.2% recorded for year ending November 2022. Annual Petrol inflation slowed to 22% in December 2022 from 33.5% of November 2022. Annual liquid energy fuels inflation slowed to 24.8% from 32.7%.
Annual food crops and related items’ inflation increased to 29.4% in December 2022. The inflation for the same items in November 2022 was 27.8%. This was mainly due to annual ‘vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses’ inflation that increased to 39.7% in December 2022, compared to 35.4% of November 2022.
Maize flour inflation increased to 95.7% in December 2022, November 2022 was 94.0%
Rice inflation slowed down to 42.6% in Dec 2022, Nov 2022 was 46.7%.
However, matooke (bunch) and beans (dry) inflation was registered at 77.9% and 30.2%, respectively in December 2022.
