Overview:
In the absence of international travel and visitors from abroad, a Ugandan tourism company is turning to young local tourists, hoping to travel closer to home. With abseiling off the top of waterfalls and hiking up Uganda's Mount Elgon they're building a small customer base
The Ministry of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has launched Easter holidays getaway packages for various destinations across Uganda.
The ministry has partnered with major domestic holiday hubs that attract the bulk of Ugandans and in each of these destinations identified some moderately priced lodges and hotels that Ugandans can contact for great Easter packages using the “DTF Easter 2022” promo code.
While launching this partnership at Uganda Media center on Monday, Martin Bahinduka Mugarura, the Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities said this is one of the strategies the ministry is undertaking to promote domestic tourism service in the country.
“For many years, the marketing of the tourism services in Uganda has been heavily skewed towards key international markets. Very little effort is targeted towards the domestic form of the service or the domestic market. Destinations for international in bound tourists are marketed for domestic tourists, yet the two tourists have different motivations” Said the minister
He said as a ministry and most especially after the Covid 19 pandemic, they have decided to make some very strategic inroads towards promoting the domestic tourism service.
“In order to be able to achieve this, we have teamed up with the private sector members like the Uganda Hotel Owners Association, the Domestic Tourism Forum comprised of leading domestic tourism service providers like Breathtaking Uganda, TravelNeza, Umoja Conservation Trust, Vilakazi Safaris, Ikorom Safaris, various domestic airlines plying the local routes like Aero Link, Bar Aviation, public transport providers and several leading regional tourism clusters” added Minister Mugarura
