SafeBoda, Police agree to streamline boda boda industry

Police and management of SafeBoda, a ride hailing company, have agreed to work together to streamline their operations for the betterment of the boda boda industry in the country.

This was during a tour of the SafeBoda Academy by Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander   Stephen Tanui, and his team on Thursday, 17 March 2022.

“Our visit here is to establish a working relationship with SafeBoda to work together on a better Uganda and to beat crime,” Tanui said.

“I am impressed by the smartness and calmness these people (at SafeBoda) possess, especially the ladies. We need to change the mindset of ladies to also ride boda bodas. I encourage Rapa Ricky to recruit more youth given the employment opportunities available,” Tanui said.

He urged riders under SofaBoda to continue being disciplined.

“I encourage you, SafeBoda, to keep on with the discipline and assure you that the police knows about you. Feel free to always reach out if you need anything. Keep working hard and prosper in the times ahead,” Tanui said.

Rapa Ricky, the director and founder of SafeBoda, underscored the importance of the boda boda industry in the economy.

“As a community, we value the well-being of the boda boda industry. We train our drivers to behave when on the road and are ready to co-operate with the authorities on any issues that involve our drivers,” he said.

“COVID-19 affected the boda-boda industry heavily and many of us have never healed from it. We have always fronted the well-being of our drivers and are actively engaging more to get back and work,” he added.
