Telecommunications company Airtel Uganda has launched its 4G smartphone, which it says will be able to increase financial inclusion in the country due to its affordability.
Airtel Uganda also launched affordable data bundles called Supa Combos.
Speaking at the function in Kampala yesterday, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Manoj Murali said the new product is testimony of the company’s goal to extend mobile phone connection to more Ugandans.
“At Airtel Uganda, we made a promise to connect people. We delivered on this promise and are keeping it with our reliable 4G smartphone network that covers Uganda border to border,” he said.
“Ugandans have also known us for affordable data for many years. Today we are have added 7 times more data to our refreshed data bundles called the Supa Combos.
“I wish to thank our customers for the continued loyalty, and our teams that were involved in putting this together,” he added.
Mr Henry Njoroge, the Marketing Director at Airtel Uganda, said their new phones are readily available across the country.
“At Airtel, we believe that connectivity should not be a luxury, it should be for everyone. That is why today we are launching the most affordable 4G device in Uganda. It is available in all our Shops around Uganda.”
“For those customers who prefer Daily Bundles, we have doubled the volumes of data purchased and this will be permanent going forward. We are committed to supporting this segment with affordable data because it is the glue for micro-enterprises,” Njoroge said.
He explained that they are doubling the allocation of the current data bundles at the same price. For example; at 250 UGX, he said, one will now be getting 30 MBs instead of 15 MBs effective immediately.
The Airtel 4G smartphone boasts a 5-inch display, long battery life of 2500mAh, big storage of 32 GB and a good processor of 1.4Ghz quad-core.
The Airtel 4G Smartphone’s effective price is UGX 163,500/=. While the customer will pay 250,000/= at the outlets, the offer comes with a total UGX 86,500/= worth of 13 GBs data redeemed as 2GB foe the first month and 1GB every month for the next 11 months.
