Several commercial banks have revised their working hours and even closed several branches as the Covid-19 induced lockdown disrupts operations.

Stanbic Bank Uganda, Absa Bank Uganda, and Centenary Bank are some of the banks which have scaled down operations, with some branches set to open between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, compared to the 8:30 am to 5:00 pm working hours before the lockdown announcement on June 18, 2021.

Since Saturday, the banks have been adjusting working hours to 9:00 am to 1:00 pm as several economic sectors remain closed. The banks have encouraged clients to use digital channels amid the ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

For Centenary Bank, branches with adjusted working hours include: Bwaise, Entebbe Road Standard, Namirembe Road, Nansana, Nateete, Mapeera Platinum, Mapeera Standard, Kireka, Ntinda, Kabalagala, Mukono, Lugogo and Najjanankumbi.

Temporarily closed branches include: Kikuubo, Nakivubo, Rubaga, Wakiso, Kawempe, Kawuku, Makerere and Entebbe Rd Corporate.

“You are further encouraged to access banking services using our digital channels which are CenteMobile. CenteVisa, CenteAgent Banking and CenteOnline Banking,” Centenary Bank said in a statement.

For Absa, the closed branches are Abaita Ababiri, Garden city, Nakulaby, Lubowa, Shauriyako, Acacia, Luwum Street, Ndeeba and Rwenzori.

Uganda is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 infections and deaths resulting from the virus have hit 660, according to June 18, 2021, update from the Ministry of Health.

The update shows that Uganda lost 34 people on June 18, which cumulatively brought to 660 the total number of people that have died from the virus since the first case was reported in March of last year.
