Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) in partnership with MTN Uganda has launched the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) to enable efficient cashless transactions among the chain of distributors.
The MTN FMCG Digital Suite automates the distribution of products and services and allows payment for delivered goods via MTN Mobile Money, eliminating the use of cash in the supply chain. The service has been developed by MTN’s Technology Business and fintech arm, MTN MoMo.
Speaking at the launch on Friday, Mr Andrew Kilonzo, the Managing Director of UBL, said the MTN FMCG Digital Suite will help to digitise the their product distribution supply chain and digitize the UBL work space and the work force in transactions.
He said the launch is the company’s step to embrace this new technology is in line with their passion for innovation to drive digitization and improvement of operational efficiency while addressing the risk of handling cash by their distributors.
“This is a game changer for us that will essentially translate towards delivering even more value to our consumers. We appreciate a partner like MTN Uganda for coming forward and providing scale to our journey towards digitization,” he said.
“We are committed to being a data driven decision making business. This is one of the reasons we are in this partnership. Today we cement a relationship among three great brands; MTN, MoMo and UBL,” he said.
MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge, who launched the product, said the business digital suite designed by MTN’s technology business and their fintech arm will revolutionize the way that products are distributed and paid for in Uganda
“In as much as cash is great, it has great challenges in security and convenience. We are glad that UBL has embraced this initiative and it is really an honour for us to partner with a business that is 76 years old – older than Independent Uganda,” she said.
Richard Yego, the Managing Director at MTN Mobile Money Uganda Ltd said the new platform will not only hasten the adoption of digital mobile money payments but also boost safety of the business persons in dealing with returns.
With MTN MoMo Pay, you can now run your FMCG business off the cashless payment ecosystem. This means that one can accept payments from customers quickly and easily, and can track sales in real time.
