The Kampala auditions of Miss Tourism Kigezi have been launched with the aim of selecting a tourism ambassador for the sub-region.

They included Leonah Aturinda, a second year student at Makerere University Business School; Marina Ampurire, a second year student of procurement at Makerere University; Stecia Tukamusherura, a Senior Six vacist, Precious Kengero, a second year social sciences student at Makerere University; and Pauline Ampereire, a finalist at the Uganda Civil Aviation Academy.

Mr King Stephen Biriko, the operations manager of Miss Tourism Kigezi Initiative (MTKI) said during the auditions, they were receiving the girls’ application of participation and to check on their natural beauty, their discipline, verbal expression and general knowledge.

Marina Ampurire, a Second Year procurement student at Makerere University is one of the contestants.

The competition, which is sponsored by Liberty Insurance and Wildlife Club Uganda, among others, will last one month where the participants will be voted online.

Mr Michael Agaba Kasheka, the Liberty Insurance Business Development Manager, said the major objective of the competition is to promote tourism and culture exchanges among schools in Kigezi region as well as fostering friendship and goodwill among Banyakigezi and beyond.

“It is also about spreading the spirit of wildlife and culture conservation amongst the youth in schools and other institutions,” he said.

Mr Agaba said they expect more partners on board.

“Liberty General Insurance has determined itself to promote the inbound (Uganda) and East African Tourism through a newly innovated Travel Insurance package ‘Safari ya Raha’ to protect all tourists whilst visiting,” he said.
