Absa Uganda has partnered with the Uganda Institute of Information Communication Technology (UICT) to provide ICT skills training to youth in vocational institutions around the country.
The training is accredited by Amazon Web Services, a leading cloud services provider, following a joint partnership signed between AWS and Absa in 2021. Under this partnership, 500 Ugandans are fully funded to receive the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification.
Speaking at the signing of the partnership in Kampala on Thursday, 01 September 2022, Mumba Kalifungwa, Managing Director at Absa Uganda, said: “We are passionate about providing youth with the skills needed in an increasingly digital world. Through this partnership, we will fund nine trainers to provide ICT skills certified by Amazon to 491 students.”
He added: “It is essential to equip our youth with the skills, knowledge and attitude being sought after by employers to make them employable. We do this with a demand-led approach in line with the requirements of the critical growth sectors.”
Dr. Fredrick Kitoogo, the Principal of UICTUG, said: “This partnership with Absa will enable us to provide globally recognised training and certification to students, improving their career prospects and creating a solution to the unemployment gap. We appreciate Absa Uganda for the support.”
The initiative supplements the bank’s efforts, such as the Absa Ready Programme to empower young people with the training and tools they need for employment and entrepreneurship in the future workplace. Over 100 students registered and completed the modules during the event.
