Uganda's latest financial awareness campaign offers free expert advice and cash prizes to encourage better saving, investment and planning habits for 2026.
KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services has introduced a new webinar series and a digital storytelling challenge as part of its 2026 efforts to improve financial literacy.
The initiatives are the latest components of the 2025-2026 Banking and Financial Services Awareness Campaign. The program, which carries the theme Planned Adult, aims to transition Ugandans from short-term financial survival toward long-term sustainability.
Goretti Masadde, chief executive officer of the institute, launched the webinar series Friday with a discussion on financial health and earnings. The session was moderated by Grace Muwanguzi, head of learning and development at Stanbic Bank.
The institute will host these free public webinars every Friday throughout February from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Upcoming topics include institutional sustainability and practical financial planning for professionals.
The Planned Adult campaign is about helping individuals and institutions move beyond reactive financial decisions, Masadde said. Through these weekly conversations, we are creating space for honest dialogue, learning, and behavior change.
Alongside the educational sessions, the institute launched the Throwback 2025 Challenge. The digital initiative encourages participants to share videos or photo stories on social media reflecting on their financial choices in 2025 and their goals for 2026.
The challenge runs through May 6 and features a total prize pool of 1 million Ugandan shillings.
One honest story can inspire another person to plan better, save smarter, and build a more secure future, Masadde said.
Now in its sixth season, the awareness campaign is supported by the Bank of Uganda, the Uganda Bankers’ Association and stakeholders such as the Deposit Protection Fund, Absa Bank Uganda and the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services provides training and research for the nation’s financial sector, with a focus on professional standards and financial inclusion.
