The Uganda Tourism Board confirms the country remains stable and open for travel during the 2026 election cycle. President Museveni has declared Jan. 15-16 as public holidays for voting.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda remains open to tourists and continues to be peaceful during the current election cycle, according to the Uganda Tourism Board.

The agency announced Thursday that national parks, wildlife reserves and cultural sites are operating normally. Hospitality services, including hotels and transport operators, have not reported disruptions to their daily activities.

To facilitate the voting process, President Yoweri Museveni has declared Jan. 15 and Jan. 16 as public holidays. The declaration was made under the Public Holidays Act to allow citizens to participate in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. The two-day break applies throughout the country.

To ensure the safety of both citizens and international visitors, the government has implemented additional security measures for election day. The tourism board stated it is working with other government agencies and the private sector to maintain a stable environment for travelers.

Officials are encouraging visitors to proceed with their original travel plans. The agency advised travelers to check its official website and social media platforms for the most current information.
