Uganda Development Bank (UDB) wins the Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award 2025 in Germany for its impact on inclusive, green growth.

KARLSRUHE, Germany — The Uganda Development Bank (UDB) won the Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award 2025 at the Global Sustainable Finance Conference in Germany, recognizing the institution’s success in integrating economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Patricia Ojangole, UDB’s managing director, accepted the award Thursday, Sept. 25, during the Global Sustainable Finance Conference, which ran from Sept. 25 to 26 in the city of Karlsruhe.

The award recognizes UDB’s holistic embrace of sustainability and its excellence in demonstrating development impact across the organization.

The citation for the award praised UDB as “a driving force for inclusive and sustainable growth” in Uganda, noting its critical role in transforming key sectors such as agriculture, industry, and infrastructure by providing long-term capital.

“UDB’s impact extends far beyond financial support – it is about creating opportunities, enhancing food security, boosting manufacturing, and promoting the services sector,” the citation added.

Dr. Ojangole said the award positions the bank as a key player in creating an “inclusive, green, and sustainable Ugandan economy.”

The bank’s performance was assessed throughout the year, with the award highlighting UDB’s ability to grow its balance sheet while delivering positive socio-economic outcomes. The institution is the country’s national Development Finance Institution, supporting private sector projects that offer high socio-economic value, including job creation and foreign exchange generation.

The latest achievement follows a series of international recognitions for the bank. In 2024, Dr. Ojangole won the Sustainability Leader of the Year Award for the fourth consecutive year at the same event. That year, UDB also achieved the highest level of certification from the Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative (SSCI).

The Global Sustainable Finance Conference is an annual international platform focused on developing practical, implementation-ready solutions for sustainable banking and finance.
