Equity Bank Uganda taps Claver Serumaga for Executive Director role

KAMPALA, Uganda — Equity Bank Uganda, a subsidiary of Equity Group Holdings Plc., announced Tuesday the appointment of Claver Serumaga as its new executive director.

Serumaga, a banker with more than 20 years of experience across Africa, will lead the bank’s Commercial Banking Division, driving strategic growth and development.

Before joining Equity Bank Uganda, Serumaga served as CEO of NCBA Bank in Tanzania. Previously, he held senior roles at Bank of Africa Kenya and Bank of Africa Group, overseeing digital transformation across 16 African countries. Earlier in his career, he was general manager for business development at Bank of Africa Uganda.

“His deep understanding of commercial banking, digital transformation, and business development aligns seamlessly with our mission to deliver innovative, inclusive, and transformative financial solutions to our customers,” said Marik Ocitti, chairman of Equity Bank Uganda Limited.

Serumaga holds a Master of Business Administration in Executive Management from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University in Kampala. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK).
