Overview:
Spiro, the continent’s largest e-mobility company, has hired former Indofast Energy head Anant Badjatya to run its African operations.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Spiro, Africa’s largest electric mobility company, has appointed Anant Badjatya as its new group chief executive officer to lead its next phase of expansion across the continent.
The appointment follows the company’s recent 215 million dollar equity raise, which represents one of the largest investments in the African electric mobility sector to date.
Badjatya joins Spiro from Indofast Energy, a joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility. During his tenure there, he oversaw the development of an extensive battery-swapping network in India that grew to more than 1,800 stations serving roughly 90,000 vehicles daily. He brings more than 20 years of executive experience across India, the Middle East and Africa in the energy, industrial and electric mobility sectors.
In his new role, Badjatya will oversee Spiro’s operations across battery swapping, leasing, logistics, energy and vehicle manufacturing. Kaushik Burman will continue in his role as chief executive officer of mobility, focusing on managing the company’s fleet and operations across its seven active markets.
Gagan Gupta, founder and chairman of Spiro, said Badjatya will consolidate strategic initiatives and guide the company through its next chapter of growth in mobility, energy and technology.
“Africa represents the most exciting frontier for electric mobility,” Badjatya said. “Spiro has built a unique platform and is exceptionally well positioned to accelerate the transition to cleaner and more accessible mobility across the continent.”
Spiro operates a large battery-swapping network for electric two-wheel vehicles on the African continent, with more than 100,000 electric motorcycles deployed and over 2,500 swapping stations established. The company focuses on replacing fossil-fuel transport with electric alternatives and is expanding its regional assembly footprint to manufacture electric vehicles within Africa.
