The Uganda National Oil Company calls for stricter QHSSE standards as the country transitions from oil exploration to production to ensure sustainable operations.
KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda National Oil Company is calling for stricter quality, safety and environmental standards as the country’s petroleum sector shifts from exploration to active oil production.
The state-owned company hosted a workshop for suppliers and service providers Thursday at the Kabira Country Club to address compliance and readiness across the industry.
UNOC Chief Operating Officer Samantha Muhwezi told participants that expectations for all stakeholders are rising as the industry enters this new phase. She said adhering to quality, health, safety, security and environmental (QHSSE) requirements is a critical foundation for efficient and sustainable operations.
QHSSE is not just a compliance requirement, Muhwezi said. It is a shared responsibility that demands commitment, vigilance, accountability and continuous improvement from all of us.
Muhwezi warned that failing to meet these standards could have far-reaching consequences for local livelihoods, ecosystems, investor confidence and national development.
The workshop is part of a broader effort by UNOC to build the capacity of Ugandan businesses to meet international benchmarks and compete for opportunities within the oil and gas value chain.
The event also included the launch of a documentary focused on national content. The film highlights milestones in promoting local participation, skills development and enterprise growth within the petroleum industry.
