Overview:

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards and Uganda Investment Authority are partnering to enhance product competitiveness and streamline services for industrial investors.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Two of Uganda’s leading investment and regulatory agencies reaffirmed a partnership Monday aimed at streamlining industrial growth and improving the quality of locally manufactured goods.

The heads of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and the Uganda Investment Authority met in the capital to align their strategies with the country’s long-term economic development goals.

James Kasigwa, executive director of the standards bureau, said integrating quality assurance directly into industrial parks is essential for Ugandan products to compete in international markets. He also urged companies to follow environmental, social and governance requirements to ensure sustainable growth.

The investment authority’s director general, Robert Mukiza, pledged to allocate land for the standards bureau within every industrial park in the country. The move is intended to bring testing and certification services closer to manufacturers.

Mukiza also called for an increased presence of standards officials at one-stop centers to reduce bureaucratic delays for traders.

The agencies said the collaboration is expected to increase investor confidence and make Ugandan exports more competitive by ensuring they meet rigorous safety and health frameworks.

The investment authority is the primary government agency tasked with advising on policy and promoting growth, while the standards bureau is responsible for enforcing national regulations to protect public health and the environment.
