Overview:
Registrar General Mercy K. Kainobwisho says the new international certification will allow URSB to align its business registration and intellectual property services with global best practices.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau has attained the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification, a global benchmark expected to enhance service delivery and institutional transparency.
ISO 9001:2015 is recognized internationally as the leading standard for quality management. The certification focuses on customer satisfaction, risk-based thinking and continuous process improvement. By achieving this status, the bureau has aligned its internal operations with global quality benchmarks.
Speaking at a ceremony in Kampala last week, Registrar General Mercy K. Kainobwisho said the milestone reinforces the bureau’s commitment to innovation. She noted that the framework would allow the agency to continuously review and align its processes with international best practices to deliver faster services.
Dr. Theopista Mary Wenene, the deputy head of Public Service and deputy secretary to Cabinet, attended as chief guest. She commended the agency for embracing reforms anchored on accountability and results-oriented management, describing the bureau as a model for other government entities.
The board chairperson, Francis K. Butagira, said the board intentionally championed the institutionalization of these standards to improve governance. He noted that sustainable excellence requires structured systems and measurable outcomes.
Officials said the certification marks a new era for the bureau, specifically regarding the efficiency of business registration and intellectual property services.
The development is expected to increase public confidence in the agency’s mandate as the country’s primary registration body. The bureau stated it remains committed to using these quality standards to support national economic development through transparent and reliable registration services.
