KAMPALA, Uganda — Tecno Mobile has introduced its glass-bodied Camon 50 series to the Ugandan market, marking one of the first major hardware launches in the region to feature the Android 16 operating system.
The new lineup, which includes the Camon 50 and Camon 50 Pro, represents a significant shift in design for the manufacturer. Moving away from the plastic components often found in mid-range devices, the series features a full glass body and curved edges. According to the company, the reinforced glass is engineered to survive accidental drops from heights of up to 2.5 meters.
The integration of Android 16 provides the software foundation for a suite of photography tools, including a 50-megapixel main camera and a telephoto lens with 50x zoom. The devices are powered by a MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset and come equipped with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of internal storage.
Bruce Dickson, a product consultant for Tecno Uganda, described the series as a statement device during a launch event at Skyz Hotel Naguru. He said the improvements in performance and functionality build upon the AI-powered standards set by the previous Camon 40 model.
To support the updated operating system and high-resolution display, the phones carry a 6,150mAh battery. Tecno claims the hardware can sustain up to 48 hours of use on a single charge. The devices also feature dust and water resistance and are available in eight different color options.
The Camon 50 series is currently available at retail locations across Uganda and through digital platforms such as Jumia and Markets by MoMo.
