Overview:
More than 100 travelers face weeklong delays as Uganda Airlines strands passengers in Lagos. This marks the second major disruption for the carrier at MMIA since December 2025.
LAGOS, Nigeria — Uganda Airlines travelers stuck at Lagos airport for second time in weeks are facing major disruptions once again at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The latest incident has left more than 100 passengers grounded at the terminal, occurring less than a month after a mid-December 2025 technical issue involving an Airbus A330-800neo stranded hundreds of others.
Some affected travelers, including those who journeyed to Lagos from other states, reported being unable to depart for up to a week. Many alleged the airline provided no prior notification regarding the changes to their flight status.
One passenger from Onitsha, Anambra State, said her flight was delayed by 48 hours. Although she was rescheduled for a 2 a.m. departure on Friday, there was no confirmation as of the time of the report that the flight would actually take off.
Another group of travelers scheduled for a Thursday evening flight to Entebbe, Uganda, arrived at the airport only to find the aircraft grounded. Passengers complained of a total lack of communication from the carrier via email or text.
One female traveler described being told to go home and return to the airport at 2 a.m. the following day without any prior warning of the cancellation.
Calls to the Uganda Airlines country manager went unanswered, and the carrier has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
During the previous crisis in December, it took the airline more than a week to evacuate passengers using partner carriers like RwandAir and Kenya Airways. Uganda Airlines operates twice-weekly flights to Lagos on Mondays and Thursdays, in addition to its Abuja route.
