Overview:
According to data from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), September’s passenger numbers comprised 105,043 arrivals and 121,258 departures, averaging 7,543 travelers per day passing through Uganda’s main gateway.
ENTEBBE: Entebbe International Airport handled 226,301 international passengers in September 2025, marking another month of strong travel activity despite a slight decline from August’s record figures.
According to data from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), September’s passenger numbers comprised 105,043 arrivals and 121,258 departures, averaging 7,543 travelers per day passing through Uganda’s main gateway.
Although the total fell short of August’s record-breaking 243,089 passengers, officials say overall traffic trends remain robust, reflecting steady demand for travel driven by business, tourism, and conference-related movements.
“Passenger numbers continue to show resilience, with consistent inflows and outflows every month,” a UCAA source noted, adding that the figures underscore Uganda’s growing role as a regional travel hub.
On the cargo side, Entebbe recorded a notable increase in trade volumes. Imports stood at 2,175 metric tonnes, while exports reached 3,707 metric tonnes, totaling 5,882 metric tonnes of cargo handled during the month — a rise from 5,257 metric tonnes in August.
The increase in exports, largely attributed to agricultural produce, fish, and fresh-cut flowers destined for European and Middle Eastern markets, highlights the continued recovery of Uganda’s export sector.
Entebbe Airport has experienced sustained growth since international travel resumed following the COVID-19 pandemic, with passenger numbers steadily approaching and at times surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Improved connectivity, regional business engagements, and tourism revival have all contributed to the positive trend.
Industry analysts say that despite global economic pressures, Uganda’s aviation sector has remained stable due to diversified demand sources and the country’s strategic positioning as a gateway to the Great Lakes region.
The UCAA continues to invest in infrastructure upgrades and service improvements at Entebbe International Airport, including the expansion of the departures terminal and modernization of cargo handling facilities, to accommodate the growing passenger and freight volumes.
