Speaking on behalf of Uganda at the 14th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition in Washington D.C., State Minister for Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi said regional synergies must be fully harnessed to make the Coalition’s work more effective and inclusive.
Uganda currently serves as a co-chair of the Coalition, a role it has held for the past six months.
“Together with other African member countries, we are working towards establishing an African Platform for Finance Ministers, which will be launched in Lusaka during the African regional deputies’ meeting in December 2025,” Mr. Musasizi said.
The minister commended fellow co-chairs and the Secretariat for their efforts in expanding the Coalition’s membership to 100 countries, welcoming Bhutan as the latest member.
“I want to join my co-chair to welcome Bhutan as the 100th country member,” he said, adding that he was confident that regional platforms would foster stronger cooperation and deeper engagement by finance ministries in climate action — the Coalition’s core mission.
Mr. Musasizi also called on member states to look ahead to COP30, emphasizing the importance of raising the proposed USD 1.3 trillion in global climate finance. He thanked the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) for hosting the Secretariat and supporting Coalition activities as institutional partners.
“Their continued commitment has been vital in enabling the Coalition to advance its agenda on sustainable finance, climate resilience, and capacity building for developing economies,” he said.
In a symbolic moment marking the Coalition’s leadership transition, Mr. Musasizi announced and endorsed Croatia as the incoming co-chair, handing over responsibilities to His Excellency Marko Primorac, the Finance Minister of Croatia.
“It is my pleasure and privilege to announce and endorse Croatia as the incoming co-chair of the Coalition,” he said.
The Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, launched in 2019, brings together finance ministries from around the world to promote fiscal and economic policies that support climate resilience, sustainability, and green growth. It works closely with international financial institutions to mobilize resources for climate adaptation and mitigation, particularly in developing countries.
Uganda’s tenure as co-chair has focused on strengthening Africa’s voice in global climate finance, promoting regional cooperation, and aligning climate action with national development and fiscal priorities.
