Rubis Energy Uganda partners with Missionaries of the Poor, providing vital fuel to boost outreach for Uganda's most vulnerable
KAMPALA, Uganda – Rubis Energy Uganda has deepened its corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment through a new, strategic partnership with the Missionaries of the Poor. This collaboration, which includes the provision of vital fuel support, underscores a growing trend among businesses to integrate social investment into their core operational strategies.

For Rubis Energy Uganda, this initiative is not merely philanthropic but aligns directly with its three-pillar CSR framework: reducing environmental carbon footprint, ensuring a safe and empowering workplace, and fostering a virtuous society through active community involvement. The fuel provision to the Missionaries of the Poor, a faith-based organisation serving Uganda’s most vulnerable, directly addresses the latter pillar, aiming for tangible societal impact.
Olivier Gatera, Rubis Energy Uganda’s Country Manager, emphasised the long-term vision behind the support. “This is part of a broader strategy to create sustained societal impact,” Mr. Gatera stated, highlighting the company’s deliberate choice to partner with organisations demonstrating clear dedication to humanitarian service, particularly those with challenges in securing consistent funding. The consistent supply of fuel will reportedly bolster the missionaries’ daily logistical operations, which are crucial for reaching over 1,100 vulnerable individuals across two shelters and numerous outreach programmes.

The Missionaries of the Poor, operating in Uganda since 2000, provide care for diverse groups, including children with disabilities, mentally challenged individuals, and abandoned elderly people. Brother Joachim, the caretaker priest at Bethlehem Home, underscored the critical role of such partnerships, stating, “We live entirely by donations and assistance from well-wishers.” The predictable fuel supply from Rubis offers an operational stability that can be challenging for organisations relying solely on varied donations.

Rubis Energy Uganda’s engagement with the Missionaries of the Poor builds on a track record of targeted CSR initiatives, including previous collaborations with SOS Children’s Villages for LPG solutions and Rotaract Uganda for environmental and public health campaigns. This sustained approach reflects a business philosophy that views community well-being as intrinsically linked to a stable operating environment.
